FINAL UPDATE ON DAKOTA HILL FIRE IN GILPIN COUNTY

06/27/13 @5:00 P.M. - The Dakota Mountain fire has been controlled as of 3:00 p.m. today. The fire is extinguished and crews are ceasing operations. The fire size stayed at 1/4 acre. Forest Service is still investigating and no cause has yet been determined.

UPDATE ON DAKOTA HILL FIRE IN GILPIN COUNTY

06/27/13 @ 9:00 A.M. - Crews met for a briefing at 8: 15 this morning. The fire remains at 1/4 acre and Type 2 hand crew estimates they will have containment this afternoon. Helicopter operations may resume today but will be used for observation only. At present time all of forest service property within Gilpin County are on Stage 1 fire restrictions. The Dakota Hill Fire is on national forest service property and is being investigated by the forest service. Cause has not yet been determined.

LATEST UPDATE ON GILPIN COUNTY FIRE

06/26/13 @9:30 p.m. - At approximately 7:00 p.m. one helicopter water drop was completed which diminished the fire considerably. Helicopter operations were stopped and fire crews ceased operations for the night. A Type 2 hand crew from South Dakota will hike into the area tonight to assess the fire. At the present time the size of the fire is estimated at 1/4 acre. Crews will meet with the Type II team for a briefing at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning and will resume operations.

GILPIN COUNTY FIRE UPDATE

06/26/13 @2020 - The Dakota Mountain fire in Gilpin County remains small due to the remote location and terrain. Due to safety concerns, fire crews are standing down for the night but will monitor through the night. Crews will meet at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning to reassess conditions and plans for the day.

06/26/13 @ 1947 - There is a fire in Gilpin County located on Dakota Mountain approximately 4 miles west of mile marker 10.5 of Highway 119. Still assessing size. Several fire departments are on scene. No structures are threatened and no evacations have been issued.
